Old Stage counter clockwise - 19 miles

Lunch ride: a good pump at a steady pace.

Magnolia/Flagstaff Loop - Mnt Biking

Finally! I connected Magnolia with Meyers Gulch and Flagstaff Rd. I was planning on doing the full loop up Magnolia and then down around Forsyth Canyon back to Flag but I started hunting for the ditch near the top of the climb. And I found it! A short 2 minute push around a No Trespassing sign and fence and you find yourself on the flat and fairly well groomed ditch, traversing through the pines with an occasional view to the north. Really nice! It's pretty obvious where an old dirt road dobles back and climbs up to the Meyers Gulch property. A 5 minute push of the bike brings you to some grassy woodland that swoops down to the main trail.

Another Friday Happy Day: Hike up St Vrain Mountain with Rach

Decided to ditch the biking for this Friday and hike the backcountry while things are still accessible. Haven't been to this area in a while. Hiked quickly up to the ridge from the trailhead near Allens Park. Then, despite the ominous clouds, we opted to go up to the top of St Vrain and follow the ridge west for a mile or two. Awesome views into Wild Basin to the north and Peaceful Valley to the south. Heavenly.   View Saint Vrain Mountain in a larger map Boogied back east along treeline with thunder in the near distance. Popped down into the woods along a pretty creek formed from the melting snowfields above and found the disused trails back up towards St Vrain Mnt.

Lee Hill via Lefthand - 22miles

Early lunch ride to avoid the heat. Not a breath of wind, smooth roads, a great loop. Helped a damsel in distress half way up Lefthand. She flatted on her way back down from Ward and didn't have tire irons with her. Silly. Sounds like it has happened to her before. Silly. Love this ride! The creek was flowing, the pavement is smooth, the climbing keeps you at a 13mph most of the way until you get to that steep half mile at the end.

Neva clockwise, 16 miles at 20mph

94F in the air but it must have been 114F on the pavement! Bear of a head wind going out that put a crimp on the initial fun. But then a good, solid ride at a good clip the rest of the way. Didn't push it the whole way due to the heat. Can't wait for the cooler fall temps.

Crested Butte rides: 401 Trail, Reno Flag Bear Loop

2011_08 Crested Butte Mnt Bike Trip A 3-day weekend in CB with Dan. Camped up above Gothic in our favorite spot again, same as last year with Rachel. Got in around 9pm after a full day of work. Dan drove, nice to just sit and take in the views. Tent camping is a bit different from our can bit fine with such good weather. 401 for Friday's ride. Schofield Pass Road was still closed near the pass in the narrows due to a huge snow drift. Won't be opening this year, I don't think. Same beautiful trail with flowers and views galore. Just amazing. Done by noon thirty back at the car for a beer and chips. Off to town to check out the mountain's disk golf course. Waited until 4 to get the $12 twilight ticket by taking the time to do the Lower Loop trail right out of town. Great single track! Must be the locals' favorite lunch ride. Had pizza before heading up to the mnt. Hit the mountain right at 4 and did the full 18 hole course by 6pm, in time to do a dow...

Sugarloaf, Gordon Gulch, Switzerland Trail, Four Mile - 30+ miles and lots of climbing

Sugarloaf is a love hate ride. Love the workout hate the pain. Gordon Gulch is a neat single track at the end of Primos Rd. Cool little valley tucked away from things. Rambled up the Gulch through Forest Service 4x4 roads up to the Switzerland Trail/Road above Pennsylvania Gulch. Opted to do the longer but easier Switzerland Road down to Sunset and then Four Mile Rd back down to the Canyon Trail and town.
