Commando Run
With the girls slated for sleepovers, it was finally time for an early Saturday escape to do Commando Run. Alex, Varda and Seth joined us. We got to the parking area by 7:15, paid our $6 per person snow mobile containment fee, and were off skinning towards Shrine Pass in the early morning sun by 7:45 or so. Warm, blue skies, plenty of snow, well-marked trail, fun skate skiing on the roads, steep and blood-warming climbing, excellent views, and a drop into the back bowls of Vail for a ride to the top and ski down the front. Can't go wrong with that! Hitched a ride with fellow Commondos back up to the Pass to get the van by 4PM.
